The 2011 Barolo Bricco Rocca (with fruit from La Morra) expresses itself with even more ripe fruit than the Bussia cru. This wine moves over the palate with thick layers of dried blackberry, cherry and sweet spice. This is a lovely and powerful Barolo.

Full of menthol and leather flavors, this is shaded by hints of cherry, eucalyptus and earth. The burly tannins follow through, coating the mouth without becoming overly astringent. The 2010 Barolo Bricco Rocca is delicate and finessed. The bouquet is redolent of dried fruit, cassis, tar and licorice. Smoky tertiary aromas add to its complexity. In the mouth, this expression is extra tight and firm with good balance and fresh acidity.

Barolo Bricco Rocca boasts its own personality that puts more focus on broader, horizontal aromas of Graham cracker, dried grass and spice rather than vertical notes of cola and mint. Because of its unique traits, this wine would pair with stewed meats or baked white beans. ——M.L.(9/1/2011)—— 92

Barolo Bricco Rocca still needs a few more years in the cellar to allow for full integrations of its spice, fruit, tobacco and mineral components.
