This is an even blend of the native grapes Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Released almost ten years after the harvest, the 2010 Terrine opens to delicately evolved notes of tar, licorice and potting soil. This is a mid-weight red wine that has passed the test of time, forgoing its fruit intensity in favor of those aged tertiary aromas that are so well defined here. The bouquet is fragile and elegant, but the wine offers considerably more power in the mouth where its thickness and natural succulence wraps thickly over the palate. Uncork it soon it with a platter of Pecorino and Caciotta. Only 4,000 bottles were released.

The 2007 Le Terrine is a 50/50 blend of Sangiovese and Canaiolo. This is an evolved red wine with smoky territorial tones of licorice, tar and dried fruit. I would suggest a conservative drinking window because the wine appears to be at its peak right now. It appearance shows a fading garnet color and the tannins have integrated to the point of fine silkiness.

The 2006 Terrine is a fascinating, and somewhat rare, 50-50 blend of Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Drink it now before the dried cherry and plum aromas are totally eclipsed by the wine’s imposing tertiary component. You definitely feel the age here with dusty granite and gritty texture.
