The 2010 Dosterras is a powerful, well-oaked, dark wine produced from five separate plots of Garnacha and Garnacha Peluda totaling one hectare of 85- to 105-year-old vines that fermented in 1,500-liter French oak vats and aged for one year in new 500-liter French oak barrels. The nose mixes aromas of ripe black fruits, violets, vegetal coal, smoke and toasted sesame seeds, while the powerful palate shows good balance between alcohol, acidity and fruit, in a quite powerful way. I’d give it some time to polish the tannins and better integrate the wood. It should drink well for the next five or six years. Drink 2015-2021. Dosterras is a small family operation created in 2003 by Josep Grau currently producing 25,000 bottles from eight hectares of vineyards in two different estates. A new name to follow. I absolutely adored the 2009 Dosterras, which comes from a one-hectare parcel of 85- to 105-year-old Garnacha that is fermented in open tanks with pigeage, malolactic fermentation in barrel and 14 months aging in French oak of which 30% is new. It offers a refined, natural bouquet that unfurls in the glass, revealing notes of raspberry leaf, wild strawberry, lavender and dried rose petals that are beautifully defined. The palate is succulent and rounded on the entry, with copious bright red berry fruits that belie the firm backbone underneath. There is an unerring symmetry to this Montsant red, with a killer note of blood orange and spice on the finish. This outstanding, elegant wine should age nicely over a decade but will be difficult to resist in its flush of youth. Drink 2013-2023. Josep Grau’s winery is located in Marca, where he tends vines between 40 and 100-years old, raising them in a combination of 225-litre to 500-litre oak barrels. Importer: WA; Tel. Celler Dosterras' 2008 Dosterras is 100% Garnacha biodynamically farmed on chalk and clay. It offers up a super-fragrant nose of mineral, lavender, and black cherry. The 2007 Dos Terras is 100% Garnacha from a 2.6 acre parcel of vines over 100 years of age equally divided between vines planted on chalky stone and those planted on clay (hence “Dos Terras”). The wine was aged for 14-18 months in French oak of various sizes. Medium purple in color, it displays an already complex aromatic array of mineral, damp earth, pencil lead, incense, lavender, and black cherry. Smooth-textured, sweetly fruited, and well balanced, it has enough fine-grained tannin to evolve for 4-6 years. Drink this lengthy, pleasure-bent effort from 2015 to 2027.
