There are 1,000 cases of Christian Benedetti's charming 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape, a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% each Cinsault and Mourvèdre, aged in a variety of vessels. Cherries, stone fruit, hints of garrigue and wood spice mark the nose, while the full-bodied palate is soft and inviting, with plush tannins that turn silky on the finish. It's a nicely balanced, elegant wine for drinking over the next decade or so.

This biodynamically farmed estate turned out a modern-styled, dark ruby/purple-hued 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape (75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest equal parts Mourvedre and Cinsault). The modern character comes from 100% aging for 12 months in small oak casks. It is a fruity, straightforward, one-dimensional effort that is well-made for the vintage. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. No known American importer.

Borderline acidic and harsh, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape (75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Cinsault and 5% Mourvedre) gives up subtle Southern Rhone aromas and flavors, with good fruit on the attack, yet falls apart on the finish. Drink up.
