With an eye-popping pH of 3.11 (it's always the lowest in the cellar), Moreau's 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers unwinds in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, pear and freshly baked bread framed by a discreet touch of reduction. Medium to full-bodied, taut and incisive, it's concentrated and tightly wound, with fine depth at the core and a long, mouthwatering finish.

With a finished pH of 3.19, the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers is one of the raciest wines in the cellar. Exhibiting scents of almond paste, citrus oil and crisp green orchard fruit, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and chiseled, with a textural attack and lovely mid-palate volume, concluding with a long and precise finish.

Wafting from the glass with scents of fresh pear, lemon zest, orange oil, toasted nuts and smoke, Moreau's 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers is medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, built around a racy spine of acidity and chalky structuring extract. Deep and penetrating, with the highest acidity and lowest pH in the cellar, this is an impeccably classic Vergers that will show well young but which is emphatically built to age.

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers is superb, opening in the glass with a bright bouquet of fresh apple, lime, toasted nuts and candied peel. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and glossy but structured around a lovely line of succulent, mouthwatering acidity that persists through the racy finish. This is one of the highlights of the range, the cooler mesoclimate of Les Vergers being beautifully adapted to warmer vintages such as 2015.

The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Vergers, which debuted in 2002 and comes from purchased grapes, was taken from tank and will be bottled next February/March. Matured in around 25 to 30% new oak, it has a floral bouquet: hints of white flowers accompanying the citrus fruit dallying with walnut. The palate is lively and citric on the entry with orange zest and Clementine notes, the acidity taut and lending linearity toward the long, shaved ginger-tinged finish. This should be a delight once in bottle.
