The blockbuster 2015 Vinsobres In Fine is a barrel selection that spends 18 months in oak (60%) combined with a tank-aged component (40%). Vanilla and subtle baking-spice notes combine with ripe blueberries, cherries and maybe a touch of chocolate. Full-bodied, rich and plush, it fits the stereotypical mold of a "Parker" wine, with plenty of weight, ripeness and extraction, yet it boasts a degree of finesse and elegance that many big wines are missing. It should drink well through at least 2028.

Even better, yet made in tiny quantities, the 2012 Vinsobres In Fine is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah that will spend 16 months in Burgundy barrels (with malolactic fermentation occurring in barrel). Full-bodied, deep and rich, with spectacular purity and freshness, this awesome effort gives up notions of black raspberry, creme de cassis, spice-box, licorice and roasted herbs in its seamless, impeccably balanced profile. It should drink well on release given its overall balance and purity, yet evolve gracefully for upward of a decade. Proprietor Gerard Constant makes these crazy good efforts from his 20 acres of vines located in the up-and-coming Vinsobres region (think northern part of the southern Rhone). A true blockbuster, and one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted from Vinsobres, is the 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Vinsobres In Fine. Composed of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah from 12- to 60-year-old vines, it was aged 16 months in Burgundy barrels with malolactic also in barrel, a la Burgundy. It boasts a dense purple color along with an extraordinary bouquet of violets, creme de cassis, kirsch, crushed rocks, and licorice. Full-bodied with awesome concentration and stunning length, this is a brilliant achievement in winemaking from this essentially new vineyard in Vinsobres. It should drink well for a decade. This estate, formerly called the Domaine Les Aussellons, was a terrific discovery last year when I tasted one of their wines.
