Made from the estate's oldest vines, the full-bodied 2015 Cotes du Rhone Villages Seguret Family Reserve Grenache features super ripe black cherries that flood the palate with supple tannins and refreshing acidity. It might lack a little complexity at the moment, but you can enjoy it now for the bright fruit or give it a couple of years in bottle to allow for some development.

There’s less than 100 cases of the 2014 C?tes du Rh?ne Villages Séguret Family Reserve Grenache (100% Grenache from the oldest vines on the estate), which sports a ruby/purple-tinged color as well as sexy, sweet bouquet of kirsch liqueur, black raspberries, roasted Proven?al herbs, pepper and lavender. Broad, beautifully concentrated, especially for a 2014, with sweet tannin, terrific purity and a great finish, it’s a terrific example of what a top-notch estate can do in a difficult vintage. It’s well worth seeking out and will drink well through 2024.

A step up, the 2011 Cotes du Rhone Villages Family Reserve is an awesome blend of 100% Grenache (from 60-year-old vines) that was aged all in demi-muid. Sporting a deep, semi-transparent ruby color, it delivers a stunning array of sweet black cherry, cassis, liquid flowers, Asian spices and rose petal to go with a medium to full-bodied, lively and beautifully proportioned profile on the palate. Ripe and textured, with beautiful focus and length, this thrilling Grenache should hit prime time in another 2-3 years and drink admirably through 2021. The most expensive wine is the 2010 Family Reserve Grenache. This very limited cuvee comes from old vines near the village of Seguret, where the winery is located. It is an absolutely stunning wine, with an inky bluish/purple color, abundant raspberry and blackberry liqueurs intermixed with some forest floor and floral notes (lavender?), and a full-bodied, intense mouthfeel, with good acidity and a hint of minerality. This is a young, relatively large-scaled wine with striking purity and balance. It should drink well for up to a decade, which is an uncharacteristically long time for a Cotes du Rhone-Villages Seguret. These are all sensational wines from proprietor Walter McKinlay. A fabulous Seguret, the 2009 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Seguret Family Reserve Syrah comes from the oldest vines on the estate. Offering up a decadent array of black raspberry, spice-box, chocolate and crushed rock-like minerality, this full-bodied, layered and unctuously textured beauty has more than a passing resemblance to a top quality Northern Rhone Syrah (albeit from a warm year). Still youthful and vibrant, it should age gracefully for over a decade. Note: this cuvee is easily confused with the Grenache version and you have to read the fine print on the back label to know which is which. Drink 2015-2019.
