The 2013 La Gargone (60% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon) tips the scales at 13.5% alcohol. Bigger, richer and fuller than the Caduce, it offers notes of new saddle leather, black currants, forest floor and a touch of spring flowers. A major sleeper of the vintage, it should drink well for 3-4 years.
As evidenced by the gorgeous performances of these three cuvees, this is one of the best-run humble pedigree properties in Bordeaux. 2013 presented plenty of challenges, but all three of these Bouscat offerings merit interest from consumers.
