Also looked after by Philippe Cambie, the 2009 Faure-Brac Laudun was named after the famous sommelier in Paris. Composed of 60% old vine Grenache (aged in concrete tanks) and 40% Syrah (aged in barrels), this sensational effort is the finest wine I have ever tasted from Laudun. Its opaque ruby/purple color is followed by a deep ruby/purple-hued, full-bodied wine offering hints of charcoal, incense, forest floor, white flowers and black fruits. It should age nicely for 7-8 years. This outstanding Lirac estate is an emerging star in the southern Rhone. From their biodynamic and/or organic vineyards, they produce three separate cuvees of Lirac. Well-known oenologist Philippe Cambie is the consultant at Domaine Duseigneur. The 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Laudun-Philippe Faure-Brac may ring a bell with some readers as Faure-Brac is a well-known French writer and sommelier. Copious licorice, black cherry, and black currant notes intermixed with a subtle whiff of Provencal herbs are followed by a medium to full-bodied, juicy, succulent, seductive, irresistible wine to enjoy over the next 2-3 years.
