The Voillot 2006 Meursault Cras offers concentrated ripe nectarine and white peach with pungent ginger, orange zest, and mint. Rich yet firm and palpably dense, and with a mysterious carnal savor, this big-boned, almost red wine-like Meursault absolutely detonates in a finish of pit fruits and bitter sweet zest, spice, and fruit pit. It will be especially interesting over the next half dozen or more years to compare the evolution of this highly distinctive wine from the doorstep of Volnay with the dramatically different new Cras bottling at Buisson-Charles.
Jean-Pierre Charlot is keen to see his white wines given the credit they deserve, and his success most recent successes ought to insure that. His 2006s taste perfectly ripe even though they hover around merely 12.5% alcohol. Charlot employs only a very small amount of new wood to ensure a rotation of barrels.
