The 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Baudines, which was not touched by the frost, has a fragrant if not powerful bouquet, displaying attractive scents of toffee apple and a hint of walnut. It takes a few swirls of the glass before it finds its voice. The palate is well balanced with a touch of blackcurrant on the entry, the acidity well judged, especially considering the challenges of the growing season. There is good vigor here, and it feels long and bright on the finish. Recommended.

The 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines is beautifully centered and polished. Juicy peaches, apricots, flowers and vanilla burst from the glass in this exuberant Burgundy. There is a fleshiness and sheer sexiness in the Baudines that is impossible to resist, while the mineral notes, although present, lie a bit in the background. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Vincent Morey began harvesting on September 17th. All of the 2010s were bottled before the 2011 harvest. Morey told me he seeks to maintain freshness in his wines, and therefore sees nothing to gain from longer elevage. I also tasted a handful of highly attractive 2011s from barrel. The 2009 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines shows the more elegant, refined side of the villages in its textured, silky fruit and exceptionally long, refined finish. In this vintage the poor, white soils give the Baudines considerable energy and focus to balance the radiant quality of the year. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Vincent Morey began harvesting his 2009s on September 10. The wines saw batonnage every two weeks. The malos were very fast, and were completed by January.
