Looking for a robust Syrah for only $15 a bottle? This wine offers textbook varietal character - tar, smoke, cassis, pepper, and loads of spice and meaty components. A dense, rustic style of Syrah with good tannin, full body, and considerable depth, it is a gutsy, mouthfilling wine with undeniable character. The 1993 Syrah is a dark ruby/purple-colored wine with a tight but promising nose of smoke, blackcurrants, and earth. Although full-bodied, moderately tannic, rich, and full, it is a tamer, more subtle and restrained Syrah than the blockbuster Syrahs Edmunds St. John produced in 1992 and 1991. It is a 10-15 year wine that should reach its apogee in 4-5 years. Steve Edmunds is one of those rare winemakers who seems to have the touch no matter what he does in the world of wine. Tel.
