A relatively new winery, Fife continues to produce an impressive array of concentrated, well-balanced, ageworthy wines. While it is not at the same level as the two other reviewed 1994 wines, the 1994 Petite Syrah is an interesting wine. The color is a healthy dark garnet/purple. The wine is muscular and structured, with pure fruit, but at present its personality is buried behind a wall of high, relatively unintegrated tannin. The conservative score reflects the fact that I am not confident that the tannin will fully melt away. Nevertheless, this is a big, rustic mouthful of red wine that should last for 10-15 years. Tel.
