The best wine of this trio is the 2004 Max Cuvee, a combination of 52% Petite Sirah, 40% Syrah, and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. A medium-bodied effort, it offers delicious notes of sweet black cherries, cola, and currants intermixed with notions of forest floor, earth, and a touch of oak. The 2000 Max Cuvee is a blend of Syrah and Petite Sirah exhibiting a dark ruby/purple color in addition to a sweet, pure nose of black cherries, minerals, earth, and tobacco leaf. Initial releases from this winery have all been interesting and well-made wines. The 1995 Max Cuvee exhibits an impressively saturated deep purple color, and a closed but promising nose of sweet black currant fruit intertwined with high quality pain grille/vanillin notes. The wine is dense, closed, tannic, and medium to full-bodied, as well as impressively pure and rich. A relatively new winery, Fife continues to produce an impressive array of concentrated, well-balanced, ageworthy wines. The 1994 Max Cuvee, a proprietary blend, boasts an inky black/purple color, as well as an exceptionally ripe, pure nose of black fruits, licorice, and spice. Full-bodied, with layers of concentration, a corpulent, thick texture, yet no sense of heaviness, this is an exceptionally rich wine with soft tannin.
