The Calathus wines are produced by Finca Don Carlos. The 2008 Calathus Malbec is dark ruby red with a pleasant nose of cedar, spice box, mineral, and black cherry. On the palate it is a bit one-dimensional but has good depth, structure, and balance. Drink this slightly austere Malbec over the next 6-8 years. The dark ruby-colored 2007 Malbec offers up a spicy bouquet of toast, black cherry, damp earth, and incense. Complex on the palate, it has plenty of savory fruit, layers of flavor, good balance, and a lengthy finish. It will evolve for 2-3 years and provide prime drinking from 2012 to 2019.
