The blockbuster 1998 Barolo Giachini Veccia Vigne is produced from 40-60-year old Nebbiolo vines. The dark ruby/garnet-colored, expressive 1998 boasts a provocative bouquet of roasted espresso, chocolate, black cherry liqueur, soy, earth, herbs, leather, and cherry cough syrup. Powerful, unctuously-textured flavors cascade over the palate revealing no hard edges. It is a wine of great purity and intensity, as well as an awesome finish. This is truly spectacular Barolo. Anticipated maturity: now-2012.
