Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 El Abuelo Grenache presents a heady nose of warm plums and black cherry preserves with nuances of crushed blueberries, black pepper, allspice and underbrush. The very full bodied palate offers a good amount of spicy, opulent fruit with a medium level of chewy tannins and crisp acidity to lend lift to the richness. The finish is long and a little hot. Deep garnet-purple in color, 2008 El Abuelo Grenache has a bit of a baked cherry character over preserved raspberries and blackberries and a suggestion of spice box. The 2006 El Abuelo Grenache is sourced from a 43-year-old vineyard yielding a mere 0.75 tons per acre. The wine was aged in 40% new French oak hogsheads. Purple-colored, the nose offers up pain grille, mineral, wild cherry, and black raspberry aromas. On the palate, this full-bodied, rich effort tastes of ripe cherries, cinnamon, and pepper. This lengthy effort will provide pleasure over the next 8-10 years. Glaymond is the hangout of rising star Damien Tscharke whose family owns the vineyards. They are located in some of the most prime real estate of Barossa Valley. Chris Ringland is the winemaking consultant.
