The 2006 El Abuelo Grenache is sourced from a 43-year-old vineyard yielding a mere 0.75 tons per acre. The wine was aged in 40% new French oak hogsheads. Purple-colored, the nose offers up pain grille, mineral, wild cherry, and black raspberry aromas. On the palate, this full-bodied, rich effort tastes of ripe cherries, cinnamon, and pepper. This lengthy effort will provide pleasure over the next 8-10 years. Glaymond is the hangout of rising star Damien Tscharke whose family owns the vineyards. They are located in some of the most prime real estate of Barossa Valley. Chris Ringland is the winemaking consultant. Those who love no-holds-barred, big Barossa behemoths should check out Glaymond.Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel. (805) 278-9095; www.glaymondwines.com.au
