Deep, black-fruited and layered, the 2011 Nuts & Bolts is 100% Syrah that was harvest from the middle to end of November. Aged in 55% new French oak for 16 months, it delivers a seamless, silky profile with rich, full aromatics (cassis, barbecued meat, exotic spices) full-bodied richness, good acidity and a lengthy, pure finish that highlights finely polished tannin. As with the Grenache On the Road, it’s a slightly lighter, fresher version of this cuvee. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years. Drink now-2018.
Russell From continues to release a bevy of smoking wines under his Herman Story label. His wines never lack for fruit or texture, yet to me, always stay beautifully balanced and downright thrilling to drink. In addition, these 2010s and 2011s are some of the more restrained efforts he’s released. Keep an open mind and check these wine out!
