The well-made, moderately fruity, light to medium-bodied 2003 Mourvedre Evangelino Vineyard is a standard wine. There is a touch of dilution in its blueberry, dusty herb and cherry flavors. Drink it over the next several years. Tel. (707) 965-3084

I was knocked over by the complexity and personality of this wine made from 100% Mourvedre - from vines averaging 70 years of age. It possesses a tree bark and truffle-like scent combined with vibrant, formidably scents of ripe black fruits and herbs. Rich and full-bodied, with the most structure of the Jade Mountain offerings (as well as the most concentration), this dazzling example of Mourvedre is among the finest 100% Mourvedre wine I have tasted from the New World. With its obvious tannin, 2-3 years of cellaring would be beneficial. The wine can be drunk now, but it promises to last for 15 or more years. 185 cases were produced.The current vintages were released in July, 1994. They are immensely impressive wines that combine the rare virtues of superb quality and modest price.

This is an impressive Rhone Valley-inspired wine. It exhibits wonderfully ripe fruit, fine richness, and a great deal of personality. Made in a forward style, the unfiltered 1990 Mourvedre does not express its varietal character as strongly as it might have. Nevertheless, it possesses a deep ruby/purple color, a spicy, earthy-scented nose, rich, intense, black fruit flavors, good viscosity and glycerin, and a spicy, lush finish. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
