The 2018 Petite Sirah Sweetwater Springs Vineyard has an opaque ruby color and broody, seductive aromas of cassis and purple flowers, with notes of cast iron and cedar. The palate is full-bodied with surprising freshness and elegance for a 100% Petite Sirah, and it finishes with mineral and floral perfume. This was made with 10% whole cluster and aged 18 months in 100% new oak foudres. 224 cases produced.

The 2015 Petite Sirah Sweetwater Springs Vineyard is very deep purple-black in color and scented of baked plums and blueberry pie with a baking spice and rose water undercurrent plus a waft of dried thyme. The palate is very big, powerful and full-bodied with very firm, chewy tannins and just enough freshness to lift the concentrated black fruit layers, finishing on a lingering dried-herbs note. 142 cases produced.

Lovers of massive, highly pigmented, pedal-to-the-metal wines will adore Cohn’s 2014 Petite Sirah Sweetwater. Black purple to the rim, it offers floral-infused black and blueberry-dominated perfume, huge, full-bodied, dense and unctuous black fruits, surprisingly sweet tannin and a 45-second finish. It’s a killer Petite Sirah to drink over the next 30-40 years.

Lastly, the 100% Petite Sirah 2013 Landy Sweetwater Springs Vineyard is another 200-case cuvée from a steep hillside vineyard planted in loamy clay and alluvial soils. This wine spent 16 months in 100% new French oak prior to being bottled. It is a powerhouse at 15.5% natural alcohol. Absolutely sensational Petite Sirah, right up there with some of the greatest from California, this killer effort has an inky purple color and a beautiful nose of blueberries, black raspberries, blackberries and floral notes, but it is remarkably concentrated, full-bodied and multi-dimensional. The wine has incredibly sweet tannins and seems to have absorbed the 100% new French oak without a hiccup. This beauty is a full-bodied, bigger-than-life Petite Sirah that should drink well for 20+ years.

The opaque purple-hued 2012 Petite Sirah Landy Sweetwater Springs Vineyard boasts off-the-charts, surreal concentration, magnificent purity, phenomenally sweet, well-integrated tannin and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. This is killer, world-class Petite Sirah, and given this grape’s ability to resist oxidation for 20-30 years, readers can expect this 2012 to last that long. Moreover, its 15.5% natural alcohol will stabilize it as well. This is as good as Petite Sirah gets, and connoisseurs of this underrated grape should not miss it!
