Firm, smoky and meaty, the 2020 Syrah Milbrandt Vineyard starts with a dusty core of crunchy red fruit and blackberry skin before spicy aromas waft out of the glass. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is fresh and juicy on the palate, with a fine mineral mouthfeel and bacon and pink peppercorn flavors. The wine continues to evolve and uncoil, ending with a spicy, mineral-laced finish. The wine spent 16 months in barrel, 30% new French oak. Give it a try. Just under 18,000 bottles produced.

Currently shut down on the nose, the 2019 Syrah Milbrandt Vineyard offers the least amount of varietal purity but does possess a generous amount of dusty and mineral tones with some spicy black fruit aromas. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is relatively straightforward, with a balanced structure with subdued texture and flavor. Lingering with a dusty finish, I have a feeling that it will come around in time. Just be patient and open it sometime next year.

Opening with a softer style for the brand, the 2017 Syrah Milbrandt Vineyard offers a juicy, dark-fruited expression with hints of black spice and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is fresh and juicy with a tannic grip on the palate before heading toward a wholesome and uncomplicated finish. Enjoy with food.

Beginning with a fresh, ripe and juicy core of black plum, savory holiday ham and blackberry fresh from the bush, the 2016 Syrah Milbrandt Vineyard wafts with healthy fruit tones and a dusty black pepper note. Rich and inviting in the mouth, the wine is both ripe and tannic on the palate. It's a solid wine for the price and is structured to age just beyond its 10th birthday. Only 1,800 cases made for this value and quality-driven wine.

Rich and dramatic, the 2015 Syrah Milbrandt Vineyard bursts with lavish aromas of ripe black cherries, licorice, dark chocolate and sweet herbs. On the palate, it's full-bodied and ripe, with a broad, textural attack underpinned by fine-grained, somewhat chewy tannins that I suspect will always lend it a somewhat rustic profile this vintage. Generous and flavorful, with an ample endowment of fruit, follow it for the better part of a decade.
