Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2009 Fakir Grenache presents aromas of warm red currants, red plums and dried Mediterranean herbs with underlying hints of forest floor and dried mandarin peel. Full bodied with a good amount of ripe, red berry flavors, it has refreshing acidity and soft tannins, finishing with medium to long persistence. Drink it now to 2015. A blend of 97% Grenache and just 3% Shiraz, the 2008 Fakir Grenache gives a pale garnet color and very spicy, warm bramble berry nose with some dried leaves and forest floor notes. Medium to full-bodied with a medium level of chewy tannins, it has a high level of balanced acid and a long finish. Drink it now to 2015. Magpie Estate is a joint venture between the talented Barossa based produced Rolf Binder and UK wine merchant Noel Young. Coming through some difficult vintages, the line-up here remains solid with some very good to excellent wines to recommend. Note that no 2007 or 2008 Gomersal Grenache or Malcolm Shiraz were produced though a sneak-preview of barrel samples of the 2009 vintage of these wines promises something special to come.Importer: Total Beverage Solutions, Mount Pleasant, SC

The medium ruby-colored 2006 The Fakir Grenache has earth, spice, and wild cherry elements that compose the attractive bouquet. On the palate it has a velvety texture, plenty of ripe cherry-accented fruit, and a plush finish. Drink this tasty effort over the next four years. The 2005 Grenache “The Fakir” is medium crimson-colored with a pleasant perfume of cedar, spice box, violets, and kirsch. Medium-bodied, supple, and ripe, this forward Grenache is ready for prime time drinking. The 2005 Mourvedre (50%) – Grenache (50%) “The Call Bag” is dark ruby-colored with aromas of black cherry and blueberry. Fat, sweet, and forward, with excellent depth and concentration, this nicely balanced wine can be enjoyed over the next 6-8 years.
