Medium garnet colored, the 2009 -The Gomersal- Grenache displays aromas of warm raspberries and kirsch over fragrant notes of rose hip tea, tobacco leaves and underbrush plus hints of chocolate and pepper. Ripe, richly fruited and medium to full bodied, it has an appealingly complex savory / fruit balance supported by a medium level velvety tannins and lively acid, finishing long and layered. The 2006 The Gomersal Grenache is a superb expression of this grape variety. Purple-colored, it has a classy nose of smoke, truffle, lavender, sage, and wild cherry. On the palate it is multi-faceted, savory, and mellow with a velvety texture, exceptional depth, and a pleasure-bent personality. Drink this hedonistic effort over the next decade. The impressive 2002 Grenache The Gomersal is produced from 40- to 50-year-old vines and spent 22 months in French oak. An elegant Barossa Grenache, its kirsch liqueur, pepper, and licorice-scented nose is followed by a medium to full-bodied, well-delineated red. The subtle aromatics are far more restrained than the bold, expansive, rich, concentrated palate. Noticeable tannin suggests 1-2 years of bottle age will be beneficial.
