Pure and nervy minerals entice the nose with savory, salted plums and oranges. Plenty of fruit and structure at the same time on the palate. The tannins are chalky and resolved, leaving a tight, long and not overly austere finish. Drink or hold.

Aromas of dried strawberry, meat and rose stems follow through to a medium body, with firm and slightly chewy tannins and a medium finish. Linear and racy. It needs three or four years to soften. Better after 2027.

The Michele Chiarlo 2019 Barolo Cerequio is a bold and elegantly concentrated expression with good heft and staying power. That extra richness is the secret of this vintage, and this wine carries that weight with ease and grace. Flavors of dark fruit, plum and spice give the wine momentum over the palate. This bottle needs more years of cellar age.

This red reveals enticing cherry and berry flavors, along with floral and underbrush notes, all underlined by a mineral element and firm, well-integrated tannins. Supple in texture and lingers with an aftertaste echoing cherry and strawberry fruit. The Michele Chiarlo 2018 Barolo Cerequio opens to a pretty lacework of aromas with smaller berry fruits, crushed stone, rusty nail, pressed lilac or blue flower and a dusting of spicy licorice powder. The bouquet is vertical and tight, leading to a very precise succession of varietal tones that flavor the wine's polished finish. The Cerequio has ample power as well, with etched tannins that grip this Nebbiolo firmly to the palate.
