This wine is made with fruit from the estate's youngest vines that are now 20 years old. The organic Monteraponi 2021 Chianti Classico is Sangiovese with 5% Canaiolo from high-elevation alberello or bush-trained vines. Vintner Michele Braganti and his talented team turn out some of the most elegant expressions from this part of Tuscany. This wine showcases the unique house style despite its so-called entry-level status. Indeed, it punches above its price point to offer delicate berry nuances, wild violet, crushed limestone and more finessed nuances. Average annual production is from 35,000 to 40,000 bottles, and this is an excellent value buy.

Monteraponi has produced a bottle that definitely punches above its weight. The 2020 Chianti Classico is 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo. It is really quite special, thanks to its unique bouquet and elegant brightness (with vineyards at a cool 460 to 560 meters above sea level). Wild cherry and plum segue to crushed white pepper and earthy spice. This is a production of 37,000 bottles.

The 2018 Chianti Classico (made with organic fruit) is a beautiful wine that reflects the grace and elegance of Radda in Chianti, but it also ventures forth with unmistakable power and richness of fruit. Cherry, black plum and dried blackberry are clearly identified, and the wine follows suit with mild but firm structure and a good amount of phenolic weight and depth. Monteraponi is a historic estate in Radda in Chianti that is counted upon for excellent and elegant wines.

Leather, loam and graphite notes frame the plum and cherry flavors in this broad, muscular red. Dusty tannins leave a lightly astringent feel on the finish. Needs steak or wild boar ragù.
