There is nothing controversial about the 1998 Semillon, which is reminiscent of some of the finest efforts produced by Terry Leighton at Kalin Cellars. A light gold/straw color is followed by explosive, full-bodied, waxy richness with an oily character and good underlying acidity. The 1997 Semillon could easily pass as a more unctuous example of a dry Chateau d'Yquem. It boasts a deep golden color, as well as waxy, knock-out aromatics, honeyed, full-bodied, extremely rich flavors, a dry finish, and a viscosity and flavor intensity that might well be unprecedented. A 1990 Dry Botrytis Semillon, which is extremely limited in availability, was tasted. Totally dry, it is extremely controversial given its waxy, extreme style. Nevertheless, it is pure, but unusually thick and rich. While it smells like a sweet wine, it tastes dry and is heavy and rich.
