Attractive spiced and cedary character with notes of plum skins, kirsch, red licorice and dried orange peel. So refined and textural with a full body and wide, encompassing mid-palate. Lingering and velvety. Better after 2026.

This red is rich and succulent, with cherry, raspberry, plum, tar, iron and eucalyptus permeating the generous profile. Dusty tannins lift this up, while the flavors remain persistent and fan out on the lengthy finish. Complex and stylish. The 2019 Barolo Ginestra is very true to Nebbiolo, especially in this vintage, with varietal notes of wild cherry, violet and soft earth. The long growing season and cool nighttime temperatures before harvest shaped wines with more flavor concentration and aromatic intensity. Unfortunately, it also seems to have sparked a bigger alcohol content, in this case, measured at 15.5%. I suggest a shorter drinking window as a result. This is a 16,000-bottle release.

A sleek style, featuring cherry, plum, iron, coffee ground and tobacco flavors allied to a dense matrix of tannins. Turns even more tense and sinewy on the finish, where earth and tobacco accents echo. The Paolo Conterno 2018 Barolo Ginestra is a little muddled in appearance with a hint of grayish garnet. The wine's color may not be totally luminous, but the bouquet is quite articulate with wild berry, aniseed, licorice and blood orange. There is a pronounced layered of oak spice at the back (following extended aging in traditional botti) that will need more time to integrate. The wine ends with a combination of sour cherry, dusty limestone earth and 15% alcohol. Some 16,000 bottles were made.
