The Cuvee Sarah is made from 100% destemmed Syrah. The deep blue/purple-colored 2001 Cornas Cuvee Sarah offers notes of espresso, toast, blackberries, and cassis in a medium-bodied, rich, concentrated, supple style. Surprisingly successful for the vintage, it reveals a degree of ripeness and intensity that was hard to attain in 2001. Enjoy it over the next 7-10 years. Wine broker Patrick Lesec purchases his Cornas from steep, hillside vineyards owned by one of the appellation’s top growers. The wine is kept in small barrels, aged on its lees, and bottled without fining or filtration after virtually no racking and minimal sulphur additions. The 2000 Cornas Cuvee Sarah (a 500-case offering from the excellent Les Chailloux vineyard) exhibits aromas of roasted espresso intermixed with the animal, leather, and burnt earth characteristics of a top Cornas. With sweet tannin, outstanding ripeness and depth, and a large, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, it will drink well for 6-7 years.
