The 2008 Merlot Reserve (3,500 cases of 100% Merlot aged in French oak) possesses the kind of flavor profile and intensity one expects in wines costing 2-3 times as much. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of mocha, black cherries, and currants. This fleshy, lush Merlot is ideal for drinking over the next 2-3 years. From the same folks that produced the incredible value-priced wines under the Grayson Cellars label, the Pavilion Crossing cuvees are mildly more expensive, and reveal slightly more structure and oak. I'm not sure the wines benefit from that, but these are both highly recommended for their low prices and high quality.Tel. (707) 812-4443; Fax (707) 261-9400
