The 1998 Barolo Riserva Pianpolvere Soprano, was made from a property purchased in 1998, and Migliorini was forced to work with grapes he had not cultivated during the growing season. Perhaps this accounts for the sensations of lesser ripeness. The sweet vanilla and cinnamon nose are accompanied by slightly herbaceous fruit, and the chewy, intense texture is somewhat hard and backward as well as perceptibly tannic. I would try this wine from 2006 on, and, though it will last until 2016-2018, I am not convinced that it will ever be completely balanced.
