The 2011 Branco Reserva is an oaked, 100% Chardonnay. The oak certainly shows too much at this juncture, but this is an interesting Chardonnay with the verve and piercing acidity to cut through the oak and make the wine something other than sweet and woody. It actually showed fine focus and far more balance with air, developing quite well in the glass. Portuguese Chardonnay may not be a phrase that attracts a lot of attention, but this is quite well done.
