The 2001 The Stranger (100% Syrah from a blend of fruit from San Marcos, Paso Robles, and Colson Canyon Vineyard) reveals an earthy, peppery, Provencal-like nose offering scents of licorice, garrigue, and spice box. Only 264 cases were produced. Reminiscent of a Rhone Valley Chateauneuf du Pape, it boasts full body, tremendous richness, loads of complexity, and copious quantities of red and black fruits. This large-scaled, well-balanced California red is very Mediterranean in character. It will drink well for 7-10 years. Tel. (310) 288-0030
