The 2008 Barolo Riserva Vecchie Vigne, Renato Corino's old vines cuvee from Rocche dell'Annunziata, is stunning. The Vecchie Vigne was aged in nearly all new French oak barrels, but that is barely perceptible. The old vines give plenty of depth and richness to this full-bodied, intense Barolo. Sweet roses, tar, mint and dark red raspberries wrap around the plush, inviting finish. This stunning Barolo from Renato Corino is long on class and personality. The 2008 Riserva will be released in 2014. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.
Renato Corino's 2008s are highly representative of the vintage. Although the wines don't have the richness or depth they have in riper years, they impress for their vibrancy, length and fabulous overall balance.
