This winery's two 1994 Cabernet Sauvignons, made from different micro-climates and soils, offer contrasting styles. I had an unequivocal preference for the 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Garvey Family Vineyard. Eight-hundred and fifty cases of this outstanding wine are produced from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine boasts an opaque purple color, full body, an explosively rich mid-palate, and a 20-25 second finish. It is loaded with blackcurrant, cedar, chocolate-like fruit, has a glorious texture, superb richness and chewiness, and that tell-tale, earthy, spicy, "Rutherford dust" characteristic. There are gobs of sweet tannin in the finish, but readers should not conclude that this wine is ready to drink. Purchasers of it should be prepared to give it 3-5 years of cellaring as it is a 20-year wine that could turn out to be even better than my numerical rating suggests. Tel. (707) 226-5555
