This is the top-shelf red from Rosa del Golfo. The 2013 Quarantale Mino Calò is an all-Puglia blend of 70% Negroamaro, 20% Primitivo and 10% Malvasia. The wine ages in both new and neutral barrique, and it is only produced in the best years. The fruit is delivered with intensity and bold determination; however, it finds balance with spicy toasted notes and some aged characteristics of licorice and tar. It shows a full-bodied mouthfeel with bold texture and lasting flavors of black fruit, well suited to a grilled T-bone steak. Some 5,000 bottles were made.
