From this backwater, largely forgotten viticultural region, not far from the Adriatic port city of Brindisi, comes this rustic, overripe, distinctive, full-bodied, big, dense, chewy wine. It bears a vague resemblance to a Grenache-based offering from the southern Rhone. Peppery, jammy cherry/plum/kirsch liqueur aromas are accompanied by a touch of the cheese rind character pervasive in many wines from this area.
