The 2008 Dolcetto di Dogliani Vigna del Pilone shows a touch more depth and roundness than the Bricco delle Lepri in its plush, dark fruit. Minerals, cassis and graphite add complexity on the sinewy finish. Here, too, the less than favorable vintage has robbed the wine of much of its customary richness and personality. The 2007 Dolcetto di Dogliani Vigna del Pilone is simply beautiful in the way it captures the essence of this native Piedmontese variety with the muscle and depth that is typical of the wines of Dogliani.
