Saline and graphite give way to baked apples, acacia and yogurty aromas on the 2020 Chardonnay La Rinconada Vineyard. Medium-bodied with a gentle phenolic grip, it offers bursts of refreshing acidity, mineral-driven flavors and a long, elegant finish.

The 2019 Chardonnay La Rinconada Vineyard is unabashedly California in style, with ripe, toasty orchard fruit and wafts of cream and banana chip. The medium-bodied palate's rich, toasty fruits are foiled by tangy acidity and a hint of glittery mineral character. It's a bit youthfully erratic at this moment and may harmonize with more bottle time. This cuvée underwent full malolactic conversion and matured for 16 months in about 30% new French oak. 1,716 cases produced.

The 2017 Chardonnay La Rinconada Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1997 and was aged 14 months in 23% new French oak. It opens with touches of iodine and flint with notes of almonds and stone fruits. The medium-bodied palate is silky and mineral-driven, expanding slowly to lovely floral-laced fruits, and it finishes long, nuanced and fresh. It's a singular, very pretty expression this vintage! 296 cases produced.

The 2016 Chardonnay La Rinconada Vineyard—the vines are 20 years old this vintage—was barrel fermented and aged 13 months in 35% new French oak. It has a nose of yellow peach, crushed stone, nectarine, floral perfume and hints of lime peel, pastry crust and lemon cream. Medium to full-bodied, it offers great intensity in the mouth and a lightly creamy texture, with juicy acidity and a very long, intense finish. 156 cases produced.

Sanford's 2014 Chardonnay La Rinconada Vineyard reveals aromas of green orchard fruits, white peach and butterscotch, framed by some toasty oak. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, and one of the more textural and intense wines in this set of releases, though I'd still like to see more concentration and length.
