The 2009 Chianti Colli Senesi is gorgeous. Layers of fruit caress the palate in this inviting, gracious Chianti. Hints of tobacco, licorice, sweet herbs and wild flowers add complexity on the finish. The 2007 Chianti Colli Senesi from Villa S. Anna shows attractive fleshiness in its dark red fruit, spices, leather and tobacco. It is an overachieving wine for this appellation and price point. The 2006 Chianti Colli Senesi is a beautiful wine with plenty of dusty Sangiovese cherry fruit, leather, licorice and tobacco all wrapped together in a mid-weight, elegant frame. This is an absolutely beautiful, joyous Chianti from the less well-known Colli Senesi appellation. The traditional, somewhat firm style is probably best suited to the dinner table, where this Chianti will deliver plenty of enjoyment for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016.
