The 2018 Chardonnay The Meadows Vineyard takes its time to unfold to warm white peaches, honeycomb and roasted almonds with very pretty herbal notes in the background. The light-bodied palate is silky and delicate, with bright freshness and detailed flavors on the long finish. 959 cases produced.

The 2017 Chardonnay The Meadows Vineyard gives smoke and gunflint aromas to begin, with red apple skin, crushed shell, flaky pastry, white peach and white blossoms. The palate is medium to full-bodied, creamy and pleasantly weighty in the mouth with concentrated fruits, juicy freshness and a long, minerally finish. 544 cases produced.

The 2016 Chardonnay The Meadows Vineyard is a little closed on the nose, revealing subtle notes of lime blossoms, grapefruit and fresh pears with wafts of jasmine and crushed stones. Medium to full-bodied, the palate features super racy and wonderfully intense citrus and mineral flavors, finishing on a compelling savory note. 784 cases produced.

The 2015 season resulted in tiny clusters and small berries with production levels off by a minimum of 25%. The following 2015s will be bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2015 Chardonnay the Meadows Vineyard is in the northern part of the Hansel estate and at their lowest elevation as it is a meadow next to Santa Rosa Creek. Again, this is dry-farmed and planted with 100% Hanzell clones. Yields are always low and this Chardonnay offers up a light-gold color, concentrated notes of honeysuckle, baked apple pie, cinnamon and plenty of spice in a medium to full-bodied, refreshing, zesty style. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.

Another last-released wine is the 2014 Chardonnay The Meadows Vineyard, which is a dry-farmed parcel planted with 100% Hanzell clone of Chardonnay. Much more orange marmalade, nectarine, pineapple and tropical fruits are present in this wine that has structure, great acid and a deep, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel. This is a beauty and should continue to drink well for another six or more years.
