The 2009 Sangiovese Rosato is a blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Lemberger, a rarely seen variety fading from the Washington scene. Medium pink in color, it sports an enticing nose of rose petal, strawberry, rhubarb, and pomegranate. Medium-bodied, dry, and well-balanced, it is an ideal picnic wine for drinking over the next 12-18 months. Whidbey Island Winery is a short ferry ride from downtown Seattle. Based on these two excellent releases, it appears to be worth checking out.www.whidbeyislandwinery.com
