This was a challenging vintage for Calera’s single vineyards, but the 1998 Selleck has turned out reasonably well. A dark ruby color is accompanied by herb-tinged berry fruit intermixed with notes of earth, spice, and background wood. Although medium-bodied and slightly compressed, it offers attractive drinking. I doubt that more will emerge with further aging, but it should provide pleasure over the next 7-8 years.
