Last Tasted 12/91
Looking for a wine with a port-like viscosity and the thickness of a 1947 Cheval Blanc or a 1947 Petrus? While this wine does not smell or taste like either of the latter wines, it is every bit as unctuous and as concentrated as those two blockbuster wines from Bordeaux. The game-like, smoky, super-ripe nose reveals no signs of cracking up or losing its amazing intensity. In the mouth, this is a heavy, 10 W 40 weight wine that needs to be drunk with robust food during the frigid winter months. Hugely concentrated and massive, with layers of fruit and personality, this has always been one of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes I have ever tasted. Anticipated maturity: now-2000.
