The plum/purple-colored, spicy, smoky, opulent, full-bodied 1998 Barolo Fossati exhibits abundant quantities of black cherry and berry fruit, new oak, sweet tannin, and a long, chewy, lush finish. There are no hard edges to this 1998 Barolo. It is impossible to hide a good terroir no matter how the wine is treated as long as the yields are low and the fruit is ripe. I suspect its Barolo/Nebbiolo character will emerge with another 4-5 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2016.
