The 2006 San Martino is s pure expression of Sangiovese that sees 18 months of barrique. Tertiary aromas of cured meat, bresaola and Indian spice give the wine a dark and sophisticated feel. The fruit here is on the dried side with cassis, blackberry marmalade and cherry syrup. Oak-driven aromas of cinnamon and toasted nut definitely define the heavy, chewy finish. The wine is nearing its drinking peak, but still has a few more years to go. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2018.
