The 2010 Auxey-Duresses Village surpasses anything you could imagine from a humble cru. Deep in color, it has an extremely pure, almost glossy bouquet with macerated small dark cherries, creme de cassis and blueberry that is beautifully defined – almost “nubile.” The tannins and supple and lithe, the acidity perfectly pitch and the finish stupendously powerful, dare I say audacious for an Auxey-Duresses. Quite astonishing, and it will drink for ten+ years. Drink 2015-2025. Tasted November 2013.
Here is another raft of wines from the most feted and yet still mysterious Cote de Beaune growers. Jean-Francois Coche’s reds are more elusive than his whites, but they can be astonishing.
