The 2005 Monpra possesses notable richness in its dark fruit. Today the wine is surprisingly primary, with tannins that are coarse and unpolished. Time in bottle will help the wine come together, but this will likely remain an excellent, but not outstanding, version of this wine. Monpra is mostly Nebbiolo and Barbera with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. These entry-level wines show why Conterno-Fantino is one of Piedmont’s top estates.Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900
