The medium ruby-colored 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape doesn’t appear to have a lot of color and then hits the palate with a great deal more impact and richness than the somewhat feeble color suggests. The wine has a big, spicy, earthy, peppery nose with cherry jam and hints of the sushi seaweed wrapper called nori. Broad, round, totally seductive and disarming, this is a wine to drink now and over the next 5-7 years.
