What a pleasure to taste two vintages of a pure Cari?ena from centenary low-yielding vines, which was the case with the 2010 1902, from a superb vintage that had the advantage of some four years in bottle. It has had time to develop further nuances, burn out the baby fat and start showing intense aromas that speak about the Priorat -- the dusty roads and the wet slate intermixed with notes of decayed violets and raw meat, powerful and captivating. The palate is simply phenomenal, with ultra-refined tannins and great freshness, while maintaining the rustic elegance the Cari?ena is capable of. My guess is this wine should age effortlessly for 25+ years. Only 850 numbered bottles were filled in April 2012.
