Against all odds, the old vine Mencía cuvée from the warmer vintage fared much better than the one from 2012. The 2011 Valtuille Cepas Centenarias has notes of raspberries, camphor, a hint of stems leaving it to feel a little raw but very attractive and slightly earthy in a Gevrey-Chambertin style. The palate is medium-bodied, but reveals very intense flavors and great power, with seriousness and very good balance for such warm vintage. A triumph for the year. Around 4,000 bottles are produced depending on the conditions of the year.

This bold red is rich yet lively, exhibiting flavors of tart cherry, fresh herb, licorice and mineral that are focused and harmonious, in a savory style. The tannins are light and firm, and the acidity crisp. Drink now through 2018. 37 cases imported.??–TM??Region: Spain / Bierzo Select to Add
